Cross-cultural adaptation, validity and reliability of the Chinese Version of Miller Behavioral Style Scale

Abstract Background Health education basing on patients’ information-seeking styles can improve the effectiveness of health and outcomes. The Miller Behavioral Style Scale (MBSS) is widely used to identify individual’s styles, but Chinese version lacking. study aim was translate culturally adapt MBSS into test content validity, construct validity internal consistency reliability (C-MBSS). Methods forward-back-translation procedure adopted in translation MBSS. Content assessed a panel experts. In sample 1343 individuals including patients, caregivers, university students, medical staff, were using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient factor analysis. measurement invariance across samples tested multigroup confirmatory analysis (MGCFA). Floor ceiling effects checked. Results C-MBSS achieved conceptual semantic equivalence with original scale. item-level index (I-CVI) each item ranged from 0.78 1, averaging scale-level (S-CVI/ Ave) 0.95. exploratory resulted 2-factor assumption for hypothetical threat-evoking scenario. Confirmatory demonstrated good fit between theoretical model data, which provided evidence second-order structure solution (Monitoring Blunting).
